Starting school and Isla turns 8!!!

Hello!
We spent a bit of time at the beach at the end of the summer holidays and then it was time for Evie to start Prep (reception) and Isla to start Year 3.

They both got up extra early on the first day of term, and got into their school uniforms. Evie's yellow Preppie hat has got a panda, a rabbit and an owl picture on it that we sewed on.

After the first day at school:

After school or at the weekend, it's nice to go to the river:

We went for a maze day out one weekend, and also did mini golf.  Evie and I were pretty excited to see a snake in the maze, but luckily it wasn't as big as a basilisk:

Isla lost a tooth:

Evie and I visited the zoo while Isla was at a nearby Scout meetup:

At the Scout Day camp, Isla did lots of activities like tug-of-war, face painting and dodge ball. The highlight was a colour run. The Rural Fire Service squirted everyone with water and then they all threw coloured chalk at each other. It was very colourful!

Noosa National Park:

A couple of weeks ago, Cyclone Oma looked like it might come our way, so we had to tidy up the back yard a bit. The beaches were shut because the swell was so big with Oma out over the ocean. It turns out the cyclone didn't head very close to us, but the waves at the beach were amazing to see, and attracted lots of surfers to the area.

On Tuesday, Isla turned 8! Last weekend we celebrated by inviting some of her friends over for a Harry Potter party. They ate golden snitch cakes, monster-book-of-books brownies, magic wands (breadsticks dipped in chocolate) and pizza scrolls (that looked a bit like an obscurus!). They made origami sorting hats (fortune tellers) to discover their houses and then had fun making their own potions using bone dust (bicarbonate of soda), dragon's blood (food colouring), pixie dust, bug slime (washing up liquid) and goblin's acid (vinegar). They all had a swim in the pool (racing for dragon's eggs on broomsticks) and then played 'Bop and Freeze' for ages.

Isla's had a special week with another cake at school from the tuck shop with her classmates, and then a celebration at Joeys last night.

It has been the Noosa Festival of Surfing this week and on Sunday we went to have a look at the dog surfing competition, which was pretty awesome to see!

By the river on Isla's birthday:

Can you spot the snake we found at the garden centre?
