Noosa Long Weekend

Hello!
It's morning time here on Saturday, actually it's a bit before morning but I am awake and so thought I'd tell you what we got up to yesterday. It's a bit like Windy Wellington here at the moment, with wind and also rain. We've been wearing our jumpers and coats a lot and Isla even had her warm trousers on yesterday morning. She came and sat out with me on the balcony to watch for lorikeets in the morning after sleeping until after 7.30.

We went to Maroochydore yesterday to get our medicare cards from the centrelink office. It is a bit like a job centre. Unfortunately, Evie was a bit poorly so we had projectile vomiting in the car and hysteria from Isla! We had to visit a couple of banks yesterday, and the girls were much happier drawing pictures while we opened our bank accounts. Evie is back to her normal self after her little bug. She enjoyed a sticky bun with sprinkles and kept climbing the chairs in the bank so we knew she was ok again.

Our first trip to the supermarket lifted our spirits too. Evie slept through it but Isla enjoyed looking at all of the different foods. She had a prize for spotting the first brush turkey of our trip, and she claimed it by choosing some dolphin stickers. She was also very excited to see a man in the supermarket who wasn't wearing any shoes or even socks! Having the checkout man pack our shopping for us without even asking was really nice, although they use loads of bags (which are free).

After lunch we went to a nearby shopping centre to visit Big W and buy a couple of carseats. The children's clothes in BigW looked good, they even had Paw Patrol clothes for sale. Wow we did a lot of jobs yesterday!

We drove to Hastings Street to watch the Noosa Long Weekend Festival carnival. It was at sunset (5.15) and the trees in the street were lit up with fairy lights. There was a lovely atmosphere, with many families with young children out to watch the carnival. The procession was led by stilt walkers, there were lots of different groups walking down such as children in majorette outfits and schools with homemade costumes. Also lots of drumming music and dancers. Isla was thrilled by it. We followed the procession down to the beach and then looked at some sand sculptures before heading home for takeaway tea and a very late bedtime!

Isla spotted this large hairy caterpillar on our steps. I think it is an Australian Woolly Bear caterpillar that turns into a moth. There are apparently 74 different species of these in Australia, according to this website.

Creature count: lots of pelicans on the Maroochy River, lots of parakeets and magpies from our balcony, one brush turkey, and a very hairy woolly bear caterpillar!
