Our first snake of the season, under eights day and a school trip

Hello! How are you?

Half way through the last term, we took a trip to the zoo one weekend. We did a few different things. Rode on zoo teacups:

Went to Bindi's island to visit the boa constrictor (Isla has been learning a funny song about one at school):

and the lemurs:

And then a wild carpet python slithered across the path!

There was a special morning for the younger children at school called 'Under 8's day'. Evie and I joined in after swimming, but this year Isla preferred exploring all of the activities with her friends. There were lots of crafts to make, gloop, water play, and Donna the Clown.

A lot of Lego building has been going on recently:

Evie and I went on a trip to the Big Boing with a couple of friends one morning:

Near the end of term, Isla's class and the other three Year 1 classes had an excursion to Maleny Dairy. I went along as a parent helper. The children learnt about how cows are milked and how the plastic bottles are made. Isla was lucky enough to feed a calf from a bottle and helped brush Tasha the cow and feed chickens. Isla learnt how to play 'rock, paper, scissors' on the bus journey home and got to leave school early that day with me!

While Isla and I were hard at work on the farm, Evie and Andrew took a trip to Aussie World, a theme park nearby.

It was book week and Isla dressed as Rapunzel as a nice easy costume this year!

They both went to a little friend's birthday party and decorated gingerbread people while dressed as Frozen princesses:

We found a brilliant nature reserve to explore one weekend. It is called Maroochy Wetlands Reserve. It has boardwalks through some native forest (reminded us of the Faraway Tree and Enchanted Wood that we've just finished reading at bedtime) leading into a mangrove before reaching the river.

Among the mangroves trees was a crab hide! There are many different species of crabs that can be spotted on the surface of the mud.

A goanna visited our patio:

Bye bye!
