Piracy on the high seas.... with nature interlude

It was exciting to wake up in Spain! We enjoyed eating breakfast outside as the sun came out properly, followed by a trip into town to visit the China shop and supermarket.

We had a tasty lunch at home, with a dessert of something Andrew found in the freezer.....! Isla liked the sausages best though.

The pirates launched their newly purchased and inflated galleon!

During Isla's naptime, I spotted some lizards, colourful flowers, and a praying mantis (!!!!!) in the garden.

The praying mantis was a huge female. She made a strange wobbly dance movement when she felt threatened, and creepily could turn her head to look straight at us! We've only ever seen a praying mantis once before: that was in South Africa and was much smaller than this one. Very exciting! Nature interlude over.

Next we were off to the beach to have a stroll around. Isla found walking on the soft sand a bit strange. The sea was lovely and warm for a paddle (25 degrees according to the local radio). We were approached by a Spanish woman who insisted that Isla should take off her shorts (or pantalones as she called them) whilst paddling.....! I don't think Isla minded particularly either way and was much more interested in the lovely smooth stones at the waters edge. We will hit the beach properly tomorrow.

  1. Great new galleon for the two pirates but no sign of Shamu.
Swimming in the sea should be good fun for Isla tomorrow - but obviously without the pantalones, to comply with local traditions.

  2. Shopping looks fun. The seashore looks very inviting for a swim tomorrow. Enjoy yourselves in the new dinghy.Mom.
